A group of Florida deputies and police officers were able to bring a teenager back from the edge Thursday after he was considering jumping off the top of a parking garage in DeLand, according to the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office.

A 16-year-old boy was spotted at about 1 p.m. on top of the garage next to a courthouse in DeLand, VCSO said.

The boy was upset after attending a court hearing and was on the verge of jumping from the garage when he was approached by Volusia deputies, DeLand police officers and a case worker from the Florida Department of Children and Families.

Two deputies stepped forward and grabbed the teen, pulling him to safety, as seen in footage from a body cam.

After, the group of law enforcement officers sat on the garage with the boy and spoke with him about the value of life, and what a tragedy it would be to throw it away, the video showed.

The boy is getting help from people “who care about him,” VCSO said.

“It’s nothing to be ashamed of. We are all just glad he’s OK,” VCSO said.

VCSO will be giving an award to everyone involved the rescue of the boy, the office said.
