Man force-fed methamphetamines to his cat, police say

A cat is recovering and has a new home after its previous owner force-fed it methamphetamines, police in New Mexico said.

Charges were upgraded against Aaron Spaulding, 39, after his cat tested positive for methamphetamines, the Las Cruces Police Department said Tuesday.

In addition to forcing the cat to take meth, police said Spaulding was also "strangulating" the cat, squeezing it until it cried out in pain, and neglecting a dog as well.

"The cat was treated by a veterinarian and ultimately adopted into a caring home," police said.

Spaulding was arrested in June for allegedly punching his girlfriend several times, taking away her phone and holding her against her will.

Now, in addition to charges of false imprisonment, battery, and interference with communication, Spaulding has been charged with one misdemeanor count and one felony count of animal cruelty.
