Drains and suction outlets can prove dangerous for children. Hair, bathing suits, limbs and jewelry could all get stuck in exposed pool drains and other outlets. Take some time to show your swimmers where the problems lie, or make sure that the drains and outlets are properly covered if the pool is in your yard.

A Port Bolivar, Texas teen is struggling to survive after he was sucked into a drain at a water park, ABC 13 reported.

A day in the sun turned into tragedy at the Fun Town Water Park on Saturday, where deputies believe a teen was dared to open a drain inside the pool.

"From my understanding, it might have been on a dare," Galveston County Sheriff Henry Troschessett told ABC 13. "He's a large, 14-year-old, my size, 5'11", and he picked it up, and when he did that, he slipped into the intake."

The report says an employee shut the pipes off, but the damage had already been done. The teenager managed to escape, but he suffered serious internal injuries and was taken to the hospital.

Authorities say they're still investigating the grate at the water park. "Is there a way to put a lock on it, or some kind of device that screws it down so somebody is not able just to pick it up so easily," Troschessett said to ABC 13.
